Anu Taila
Classical medicated sesame oil used as Nasya (nasal drops) for disorders of the head, neck, and sense organs, prepared through ten successive decoctions with a large group of aromatic and cooling herbs.
Anu Taila — Overview
Anu Taila is one of the most revered classical medicated oils used for Nasya (nasal administration) in the management of disorders above the clavicle. Its preparation is elaborate: a large group of aromatic and cooling herbs — including Jivanthi, Hribera, Devadaru, Mustha, Dalchani, Usira, Sariba, Chandana, Daruharidra, Yashtimadhu, Aguru, Satavari, Bilwa, Utpala, Brihati, Kantakari, Tulasi, Saliparni, Prisniparni, Vidanga, Ela, Harenuka, and Kamala — are taken one tola each and boiled in 2700 tola of rainwater until reduced to a quarter.
One-tenth of sesame oil is added to this decoction and the process is repeated ten times. On the tenth round, an equal quantity of goat's milk is added. The finished oil is indicated in Urdhwajatrugataroga — diseases of the head, neck, eyes, ears, nose, and throat — when used as Nasya.
