Sattvic Diet

A diet of pure, fresh, light, and natural foods that promotes mental clarity, spiritual awareness, and harmony.

Foods and Behaviors That Cultivate Sattva

A sattvic diet emphasizes fresh, light, and naturally sweet foods that nourish both body and consciousness. Recommended fruits include mango, pomegranate, coconut, figs, dates, peaches, and pears. Sattvic vegetables are sweet potato, sprouts, leafy greens, zucchini, yellow squash, and asparagus. Grains such as basmati rice, quinoa, blue corn, tapioca, and barley are favored, along with mung beans, red and yellow lentils.

Fresh, unprocessed dairy — cow's milk, ghee, soft cheese, homemade yogurt, and goat's milk — is considered sattvic, as are almonds, white sesame seeds, and fresh cashews. Spices like saffron, turmeric, cardamom, coriander, fennel, and cumin support sattvic qualities, while sweeteners such as fresh sugarcane juice, jaggary, raw sugar, and ethically harvested raw honey are preferred.

Sattvic behavior includes austerity, meditation, spiritual chanting, and samadhi. Sattvic emotions are love, compassion, and forgiveness. A sattvic lifestyle creates clarity, balance, and spiritual receptivity.
