Sickle Cell Anemia and Pitta in Bone Marrow

In sickle cell anemia, red blood cells disintegrate and deform into the shape of a farmer's sickle. This is a genetic immunological disorder resulting from extremely high pitta in the red bone marrow, which is responsible for erythrogenesis (red blood cell production). The excess pitta in the marrow disrupts normal red blood cell formation.

Treatment with tikta ghrita (bitter ghee) combined with abhrak bhasma can restore normal red blood cell morphology within three months. Abhrak bhasma specifically acts on majja dhatu (bone marrow) and on pitta, making it particularly effective for this condition.
