Prana Vayu Disorders
Prana vayu imbalance produces a range of psychological and neurological symptoms. Psychological manifestations include anxiety, nervousness, fear, and anger. Anger is primarily a pitta quality, but pitta can disturb prana vayu as a psychological manifestation. Inability to focus the mind or concentrate is also a key symptom of prana vayu imbalance.
Neurological diseases of prana vayu imbalance include stroke paralysis, grand mal epilepsy, petit mal epilepsy, sleep apnea, and the tremors of Parkinson's disease. Respiratory disorders include bronchitis, asthma, and pneumonia, as well as hiccoughs and constant burping.
Dyspnea (shortness of breath) can be caused by exercise, emotions such as anger, pregnancy, or obesity. However, dyspnea at rest is a sign of cardiac involvement. In cases of congestive heart failure or right ventricular failure, increased cardiopulmonary action leads to breathlessness at rest.
